Thread Rolling Is A Machining Process.

Sep 19, 2025

Thread rolling is a machining process that achieves thread formation through plastic deformation, typically using a thread rolling machine. The process improves workpiece surface quality through cold extrusion forming and enhances the fatigue and torsional strength of the threaded parts using radial compressive stress, making it an energy-saving and low-consumption process. Before processing, the workpiece diameter accuracy must be strictly controlled, usually within the pitch diameter range, with an upper or lower tolerance selected according to processing requirements.

Three-axis thread rolling machines ensure processing accuracy through an equilateral triangle mold layout, and the hydraulic system precisely controls the rolling contact accuracy. They are mainly used for processing standard parts, non-standard parts (such as high-strength bolts and through-threads), and rebar joints in the construction industry. Equipment models range from the Z28 series to the Z28-400.

In recent years, thread rolling technology has evolved towards automation. Ultra-high-speed thread rolling lines are equipped with intelligent pitch compatibility and automatic tool compensation functions. Flexible automatic loading and unloading devices, controlled by PLCs, enable automatic material handling, further improving production efficiency.
